When it comes to women I want to date, I have an appreciation for virtually all shapes, sizes, and colors. To me, it's really what's inside that counts. I do have one physical hang up that I can't get past: cankles. I can't tell you why, but ankles that are the same size as a woman's calf are hard for me to look past. It makes me feel shallow, but I'm virtually powerless to my disdain.
Do you have any deal breakers that are purely physical?

Justin: I believe you are referring to cankles.
For me it's how well they keep up with their nails and toes. It says a lot about a woman I think.

What about chipped nailpolish? I think its a miracle I even manage to get nailpolish on my nails, ever.

How about you ladies? Is there anything that you can't help but dislike physically about men?

I have to say hairy backs - actually too much hair on body is not good in my book. The flipside is too clean shaven - it's ok to have some just don't get mistaken for the yeti would be good. Shaved underarms is just wrong in a man if you ask me but so is a tropical rainforest growth under there. It's about taming what you have to a certain extent and not letting the foliage get out of control. It says a man is manly enough but also takes some care in his appearance which isn't a bad thing.
I don't like rough hands so a little less like sandpaper is good on the hand front too. Doesn't take much to do the basic taking care of yourself and all women appreciate it.

It's very white straight teeth for me.
Nothing turns me off like bad teeth.

Hmmm...I'm not the kind of guy who goes completely off looks. I mean, there has to be an attraction for a relationship to work. Physical attraction is obviously important, but it is not everything.
But if there were a physical deal breaker....it would be fake baking. That stupid self tanner or going to the tanning shack. I can't stand seeing people, who aren't naturally that hue, golden brown in the winter. It's just silly.

A big gut. I don't need a guy w/ washboard abs (although that's nice) but if your stomach sticks way out over your pants line, well, that's just not attractive. I don't really know how hard it is for guys to lose that gut, but I think its not that hard to at least tame it a bit... I work out a lot, so I think its fair to ask for a guy who works out regularly too...

Very interesting! A number of things that I can't get past in a man I'm dating would be: crooked teeth, height (the lack of it), long torso plus short legs combo. I can't stand a stutter or body odor (I think this probably applies for both genders) too. Damn I'm going straight to hell aren't I?

My ex had a thing for cankles too...whats up with that? I think its funny actually....good thing mine are small....
Agree with sparklette - crooked/yellow teeth, bad skin....that sounds terrible but its the way it is.....

I like hairy guys (not so much the back hair, though). I was reading an article in some mainstream news magazine linking body hair and IQ. Hairy men are supposed to be smarter, yay!
Purely physical deal-breaker? Bad teeth. Crooked and jagged and pointing every which way like tombstones in an old cemetery.

dirty greasy hair...that's a real turn-off for me
also, if the man can't look me in the eyes when he talks to me...that's a dealbreaker...

@paperbacks -- I'm with you on the big gut thing. I work on myself -- he should too.
@veronique -- Exactly! It's impossible to keep manicures and pedicures looking good. My hobbies are not conducive to keeping pretty nails and toes. I do my best, but ski boots eat pedicures.

I'm turned off when a girl has a penis, but aside from that I'm good.

Yea j-mathias...that's usually the deal breaker for me too.
Um...For me, I'm attracted to a lot of people, mostly for personality. I've dated off of looks alone before and that just didn't turn out too well. I mean, as long as she doesn't look like she got hit with every branch in the ugly forest, then I'm good. Oh, and mullets. I don't think mullets are attractive.

Mullets Rock! well actually I guess that depends on the person wearing it.
Mullet + facial sores + missing teeth = steer clear
Mullet + supermodel = full speed ahead, ramming speed!

I totally forgot about the supermodel + mullet...I wish to retract my statement. It should now read as follows:
"Oh, and mullets. I don't think mullets are attractive, unless of course a supermodel has a mullet."

On men, I so dislike:
mullets, super model or not
hairy backs
long fingernails
dirty nails
big stomachs that almost touch a man's thighs
flabby arms
greasy hair
I take care of myself, and keep in shape (over 50 years old), and expect a man to do the same, no matter what their age is.
