This is an interesting question, most people would expect to ask about a dream partner, not a dream friend.

I guess for me at least, my best friend would be exactly like my dream partner, just that I can't fall in love with them.

Someone who accepts me for me. Someone who I trust to fight beside me and watch my back. Someone who's not afraid to stand up for what they believe in even if that pisses me off. Someone I can chill out with when the day is done and talk about nothing at all.

At the end of the day, best friends are people who just stand by you through thick and thin. To find someone like that. I did once. Then we had to ruin it by falling in love with each other. It's taking a long time to go back to those days.

I miss that.

• Buys my drinks.
• Quality wingman.
• Loves videogames.
• Buys me dinner.
• Loves sports.
• Isn't a douche.

But I have those friends already.

Confident enough to stand behind her convictions and isn't afraid to say what those convictions are.

Her #1 conviction is not herself 100% of the time.

More optimistic than pessimistic; a cheery disposition.

Knows how to mingle with people, respect and be respected.

Knows how to pull her weight and isn't a free-loader.

I know this may sound contradictory with the above, but she should also know how to be vulnerable and recognize she has weaknesses whatever they may be.

I'm cursed with the "one of the guys" complex. I haven't had a best girlfriend since I was in high school. All the girlfriends I have now are either coworkers, former coworkers, my boyfriend's coworkers, or my boyfriend's friends' girlfriends/wives.

So the most important criteria would be "Must be a girl." Also:

Must be trustworthy. I don't want to think you're trying to steal my man or something.
Similar interests, please. No girls with Fergalicious ringtones, unless meant to be ironic.
Be honest. I need straight talk and tough love. But if you think I'm getting fat you'd better be on the next treadmill over helping me stay motivated.
Know how to read social situations. If some creepy dude is bothering me at the bar it's your job to bail me out.

Those are pretty specific — basically a female friend I can relate to would be great.

@Scrivs: I don't know why, but I read that as "quality woman". Then again, maybe that's a good thing. :)

Friendship is gender-blind, but yeah that's a good wife description as well...except for the wingman part...or maybe not?

I've been wingwoman; it's no biggie. And I'm glad to do it for my guy friends. Makes the night interesting. I'll go up to a girl, often if she's at the bar or something so we'll have a reason to stand there, and make conversation with her and then after awhile ask her if she'd be interested if ... you fill-in-the-blank.

If she's too insecure or weird about it, or we don't have good conversation, then she filters herself out. :) The girl-to-girl conversation is a nice buffer, though.

I can never do a good guy to guy conversation, which is probably why all the friends I've looked to were always women. For some reason, I can share with another woman easier.

She was so good until i never realized she already gone from myself searching his own path.

I try to think: every stranger could be a potential friend. It's not so often it turns out that way though. I don't know why. Lack of time maybe?

There is a saying that a friend is some one that know everything about you and still like you. I like that saying.... *giggles*

Seriously, though, what I've always liked is friends who you could not see for weeks, months (sometimes years even) and then when you finally meet again it's like nothing changed. No need for all that what have you been up to clap trap.

A dream friend would also have to have a hot sister of course.

What if that dream friend IS the hot sister?

Do pr0n stars count as possible dream friends? :P

Lifecruiser, I like your sentiments. Sounds as though you would make an ideal friend, yourself. The qualities you describe are what I would certainly like too....

So far, I've managed to live up to my own expectations and that feels very good indeed.

I'm living after the principle:

"Always treat others the way you yourself would like to be treated"

...and that way I always know how to handle different situations. I just have to think about the situation and how I would feel if it was me.

..but I'm only human, so of course even I still have lessons to learn :-)

She would be the same friend I have now, except she wouldn't want to borrow my stuff.

I hate lending out my stuff, especially shoes.

My best friend would be about my age and take about the same size clothes. She would keep my secrets and know in her soul that I would do the same for her.
