Video Review: Lunchables Mini Tacos

Food Community — Posted: Apr. 29, 2008

$2.50 is a lot to pay for a Capri Sun, some Nerds and lost dignity. I didn’t know that ground beef could be so finely pureed, which is good to know if I ever have the combination of a feeding tube and a hamburger craving.

I'm having a Brekenridge Christmas Ale

Mine's black from office max or office depot or something like that. I also need a new chair.

» Your wife is the better provider, is that an issue to you?  ...  Last Reply: 11 months ago by Kamigoroshi.

Although I'm not married, if I were this would not be a problem for me. Like trevorlee_nc, I see the money all ending up in the same place, so it doesn't really matter who brought it in.

I'm thinking about how you should have used a question mark or an interrobang.

» Worst Christmas Gift Ever  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by joansibea.

I have gotten a few bad gifts.

One year, my brother gave me a single gift--a coupon that he made that entitled me to one free computer assembly by him. I could pick out all the parts, order them, and pay for them myself, and when they got there he would put them together into a computer for me. This was an especially bad gift because I didn't want a new computer at the time and if I did, I could assemble it myself.

I got a plaque from my Aunt once that had some cheesy prayer and my name engraved on it. On the back there was a button that, when pressed, played "Amazing Grace."

Although this doesn't count because it's technically a birthday gift (but my birthday is January 9), I got another bad gift from my brother--a gift I gave him for Christmas that he hadn't even opened. He just rewrapped it and put my name on it.

» What do you want for Christmas  ...  Last Reply: 10 months ago by dieseldelicious.

I'd really like some of these things:

* Digital probe thermometer
* Digital kitchen scale
* Wii
* Dawn/Dusk simulator alarm clock

I've got my Amazon wish list goin if anybody is feeling generous ;)

Now I just need to figure out what to get for everybody else.

» Home-made Yeast  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by loism.

Crazy. Is this like wild yeast that is used for making Lambic beer? Or does the yeast come from one of the ingredients? What part of the world are you located? If it's wild yeast, it may have a different result depending on the yeast floating around where you are.

» Vegetarians/Vegans?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by JoeLencioni.

I don't think it's vegan, but the Morningstar farms tomato basil pizza burger is so freaking good. It might have cheese in it though, so hopefully that's not a deal buster.

If you're into Indian food, Deep Foods makes some amazing Navratan Korma--it's probably the best thing I've ever had out of a freezer.

Coffee Drinks Illustrated - Side-by-side diagrams of a few common espresso drinks

With the vast number of ordering options and new words with accented characters to pronounce the coffee shop ordering experience can be intimidating. I’ve created a few small illustrations to help myself and others wrap their head around some of the small differences.

Review: Honest Tea Pomegranate Red Tea with Goji Berry

As one of Honest Tea’s nine new flavors for 2007, the Pomegranate Red Tea with Goji Berry is a little rough around the edges but is clearly ahead of other tea brand offerings.

How To Make Great Fried Rice

I've tried making fried rice a few times and it was a failure every time. Then, I read this article and it was amazing.

@jensized: I'm going to have to try that. What's it called?

» Do you compost?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Esherido.

I started composting this year and it has been great. I read a couple of books on it and got a stainless steel pail for my kitchen. It really doesn't make sense to not compost--and there are even ways to do it in your apartment that aren't stinky if you're not afraid of worms.

» What are you going as for Halloween this year?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Devin.

@Devin: good idea. I'd be worried about it not being recognizable enough, though.

@bloglily: I like that. :) Too bad your friends aren't willing to play along.

» What are your favorite drinks? (Mixed)  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Eyenovation.

When I'm not doing single malt scotch, straight up, or cognac I tend to gravitate toward mixed drinks like rusty nails or gin martinis (no olive), although I also like gin and tonics, old fashioneds, manhattans, and mojitos. I used to like white russians a lot, but something happened and now they are too rich for me I think.

What are you going as for Halloween this year?

Personal Community — Posted: Oct. 12, 2007  ...   Last By: Devin @ 1 year ago

Halloween is just around the corner, and costume parties are going to start popping up any day now.

For Halloween this year I plan on getting some friends together and hitting up State Street in Madison, WI as Team Zissou. I'm pretty excited actually and decided to grow out my beard a little so I can be Steve Zissou. :)

I'm unfortunately having a difficult time finding the right stuff for the costumes though, so if anybody has any good leads, I'm all ears.

What are you going as?

Two Fat Ladies is an old favorite of mine also!

Do you know of anywhere you can get it? I'd like to see it again just for kicks.

RR grates on my nerves, but the food is good

I can't stand that woman

» Where to find a GREAT garlic press?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by JoeLencioni.

I bought a cheap press from Target a while back and never really used it a whole lot. It didn't work very well anyway. I guess you get what you pay for sometimes.

Lately I have pretty much just been smashing it with my knife. If I want it really smooth, I grind it up in my mortar and pestle. I've also seen Alton Brown on Good Eats smash it with a marble sample--seems like a good idea.

Good luck with your press buying. You'll have to keep us updated on what you end up going with and how you like it. :)

Oh, I should also add Two Fat Ladies to my list. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember liking it when I was younger. Anyone else remember that show?

» Favorite combination for a sandwich?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by animejulie.

Where do you get red pepper hummus.

There's actually a food co-op in town that makes it and it's definitely the best hummus I've ever had. I've tried most of the brands that I can find in the grocery store and they all taste weird to me.

» Favorite combination for a sandwich?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by animejulie.

wrap + red pepper hummus + ham + turkey + jalepenos + onions + green peppers + tomatoes + doritos

» Favourite Food Show(s)  ...  Last Reply: 8 months ago by archangelchuck.

I really like Good Eats and Everyday Italian. Essence of Emeril is also good--he's so funny and serious on that show sometimes it makes me giggle.

» Coffee, good or just plain good for you?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by oniTony.

I think that there are things in coffee that are definitely good for you, which is a good thing for me because I love coffee. For instance, there are a lot of antioxidants in coffee. But, on the other hand there are some bad things in coffee. For instance, too much caffeine can be a bad thing.

I found this interesting article on coffee and health.

Favorite Tortilla Chips? Favorite Salsa?

Food Community — Posted: Jun. 20, 2007  ...   Last By: jensized @ 1 year ago

Tortilla chips and salsa--they go together so well. What are your favorites? If it's homemade, share your recipe.

My favorite tortillas are definitely Xochitl chips (Tostitos with a hint of lime get an honorable mention).

And, although I haven't quite found the best salsa, my favorite at the moment is Salsa Lisa.

We have tab here. It's actually pretty tasty (and a lot different than it used to be, being it was Coke's first diet soda). I think it actually tastes a lot like Coke Zero.

Tab Clear now that's something I haven't seen before. :)

Pair the balsamic vinegar up with some real Parmigiano-Reggiano and you can't miss. Oh man.

And, ethical issues aside, foie gras stuffed dates are to die for. Oh. My. God.

» Pop, Soda, Cola or Coke  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by bmccullo.

I'm from Minnesota and I used to say pop, which pretty much seems to be the norm around here. Over the past few years, though, I've transitioned more towards soda.

I had a friend from Georgia who made me call it Coke when he was around.

» How do you make your coffee?  ...  Last Reply: 11 months ago by Chavez_Chavez.

Aeropress. Super fine espresso grind, 165 degree Fahrenheit water, espresso strength, straight up. It is so good.

If I'm at the coffee shop, I almost always get an Iced Americano.
