» Are you a breakfast eater?  ...  Last Reply: 11 months ago by MattBernstein.

I rarely get hungry until around 11:00A, so breakfast almost never gets eaten.

Man, I just can't get over that Starbuck is a girl and the Cylons are not campy 70's robots with tracy eyes - but instead really hot blond chicks.

» I really need help  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Kamigoroshi.

I definitely would not do it. Having your ultimate superior be someone who is married AND likes you would weigh too heavily over my head. Once employed there, what happens if he makes a move? What happens to her job when she says "no"? What happens if this position makes her say "yes"? I always put peace of mind and happiness above money.

» How much do you sleep?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Causalien.

It depends if you count "sleep" or "laying in bed in twilight". I'm not really sure how much I actually sleep, but I usually lose my ability to remember somewhere around 11:00P and wake up around 08:30A - 09:00A. So, somewhere around 10 hours or so. I used to get around 5 or 6 when I was a CSCI student.

momadvice, Joy of Cooking is great. It has /everything/.

My best present was oddly enough from my wife's brother (last guy I'd expect). He got me a bottle of top shelf Polish potato vodka. Yum!

I've got a Jesus Candle left to buy as a gag gift. Then I'll be all done.

» How did you start?  ...  Last Reply: 2 years ago by teddy.

Man, it's been a long road for me.

I started by running a small community site for a Quake clan that I was a member of, and it eventually grew into my own personal web-log / rant site. The first iterations were done in pure HTML, then I moved to Perl generating static HTML from text, then the text was XML, and then I finally started moving into PHP and truly dynamic database content. Now, I've written my CMS up in Ruby on Rails and am loving it. Somewhere in there someone coined the term "blog" and everybody and their mother jumped in.

For me, it's always been a combo of a testing ground, a place to make my writing better and a way for me to remember my past.

» Women's Magazines  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by auburn.

I read Martha Stewart.

What's the deal with overweight[0] girls who buy those woman's fitness magazines but never move their butt to try anything in them? I've noticed a number of my female friends who fall into this category who always have those mags around their ap't, but never actually do anything. Then they complain about how they really want to lose weight and just stop at that.

*braces for impact*

[0] You know, just a little overweight. Maybe... chubby? Not obese. Just a bit above the recommended weight for height.

Nicole; True true! I really don't watch him for recipes. I just like the little tidbits that I pick up. Like; you're not really sharpening the blade with that long stick thingie you're just honing it.

Favorite Fallback Dish?

Food Community — Posted: Dec. 11, 2006  ...   Last By: phantomdata @ 2 years ago

So you're significant other is off on some fantastic business trip, your friends are all busy and you don't want to go out (Get it? You're alone.). You've got a fully stocked pantry and fridge. What do you make?

Me? I fry up some chicken with delicious garlic, basil, rosemary, and bacon. To that delicious combination I add some tasty linguine (though I've been rocking the penne lately), cream, more garlic, more basil, flour and parmesan cheese. Along with it I serve a nice fresh baby spinach salad topped with a nice simple olive oil and vinegar dressing with croutons on top.

I love Grape Nuts. I also love anything with dried fruits in it.

» Favorite and Least Favorite Food Network Personality?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by pickagun.

Oh, favorite is definitely Alton Brown. His show is fantastically different and entertaining. I love how he gets into the details about everything.

» Favorite and Least Favorite Food Network Personality?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by pickagun.

Man, I used to love Emiril. I remember back when Food Network first got started (I think, I was young then) and I would watch Emeril cook up fantastic looking dishes. His personality was great too. Nowadays though... Let's view a show snippet, shall we?

[Emeril] Now you've got ya chicken fryin' 'ere... and now I'm gonna pop in some /onion/!
[Entire Audience] WOW! CLAP! CHEER! SURPRISE!

If they would just nix the audience... or at least not force them to act over-surprised at the stupidest things. I get the feeling that there's an electric torture device installed in the seats, just for that guy who refuses to act surprised.

Odd. I just opened up my cute little bento that I made last night and came to a startling revelation; it contains Macaroni and Cheese.

Alton Brown; For Science! ... and really detailed tales about associated things that I never would have learned from anyone else.

» Best Macaroni and Cheese - EVER!  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by realepicurean.

I usually make the boxed kind (whatever's on sale), throw in a little garlic, cream and then top it with breadcrumbs.

» Easiest Cheese to make  ...  Last Reply: 2 years ago by LeontheMilkman.

Mmm... cheese sauces. I too have never made my own cheese. To tell the truth, I've never even eaten "gourmet" cheese before. Leon, I salute you!

» Trader Joe's : Overrated?  ...  Last Reply: 2 years ago by GodfreyDaniel.

Michael; I frequently find that you can get the pre-chopped mushrooms at a cheaper /per edible volume/ price. Maybe that's just in Minnesota though.

No knife? I would die without my knives. I would be paralyzed with fear and starvation. My wife would try to make some Macaroni and Cheese... and I would lament my inability to create a yummy carbonara and perish instead!

» Dreams can be dangerous  ...  Last Reply: 2 years ago by bgilham.

I used to know when I was dreaming. I remember one time that I dreamed I was in a giant dark room with a huge overstuffed recliner sitting in the middle. I was completely aware that it was a dream, and completely freaked out screaming for someone to wake me up.

One time I was sleeping and my arm fell asleep while it was over my head. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt this foreign limb over my face and got freaked out and beat it against the wall once or twice before realizing that it was mine.

Sleep, wonderful things can happen!

Michael; I've always found that liking your job is important, but having a firm social network is also important. Frequently it's your social network that will lead you to career advancements anyway, so I believe that they're too intertwined to ignore.

Also, I'm working my way through college at the moment. I probably would have murdered someone by now if I didn't like my job! :)

[ Editor's note; I do not condone acts of senseless terrorism. Football is serious business, don't mess with it. ]

My wife, my cat, cooking, organizing and learning. In that order. :)

» Would You Date A 9ruler?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by peroty.

Now I will actually contribute to this thread. :)

The fact that I'm married withstanding and treating this as a hypothetical situation; I would certainly date a 9ruler. If you've managed to get admitted into the 9rules network, you're clearly a smart and well expressed cookie. So... you get smart points and you (probably) get tech points because you (probably) know enough about the internet to setup a blog and market it.

Personally, I try my best never to blog about trouble in my relationships. It's a real easy way to make a bad situation even worse. On the other hand though, blogging about the good things is an easy way to make a good situation better.

» Would You Date A 9ruler?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by peroty.

Through exhaustive studying and sound scientific measurements, I have determined that 100% of the people making anything (content, blogs, code, the geeks!) on the internet are a) On MySpace and nothing more or b) A boy.

Yes, all the females you see here are boys masquerading as girls!

How did I come to this wondrous deduction? I made a mental tally in my head of girls that I physically know AND know the internet exists AND have tried / are trying to make their mark on it. My head boggling result of this exhausting exercise in statistical analysis was zero. I have yet to meet a girl who is involved in technology.

With this in mind, I can soundly say that due to my dislike of penises I would never date a 9ruler.

* If you couldn't tell, it's satire. I know girls exist on the internets.

» Shower Door or Shower Curtain?  ...  Last Reply: 10 months ago by bmccullo.

I have to put in my vote for shower curtain. Doors require /too much/ maintenance to keep clean. I always end up ruining the metal around them with whatever cleaning agent I'm using at the time... and man... having to wipe them down /every day/ to prevent that film from building up...

Sure, curtains get film and all that. The really cool thing though? Throw them away, go out and buy another $3 pair. I mean, you're using a "nice" curtain outside and a cheap curtain for inside your shower right?

There's a brand around these Minnesota parts that has a picture of a penguin on the label. Damned good wine and decently priced.

Sushi does have a rather negative effect on your breath though; with or without the Gari. I think straight up Japanese is good though. Almost always guaranteed to be "chopsticks" food , beautiful and memorable. Show me the way to Beef Batayaki!

» Salty or Sweet - What's your favorite type of snack?  ...  Last Reply: 2 years ago by lisa.

Aw yeah! Salt and Vinegar chips! They are my one junk-food obsession. Whenever I think of them my mouth waters. Yum!

» Salty or Sweet - What's your favorite type of snack?  ...  Last Reply: 2 years ago by lisa.

Jalepeno + Green Peppers + Onion + Tomato == Yummy Simple Salsa

As to me, I'm really a salty guy. I also don't really like pre-processed foods. I'll always have something I've made on hand; be it some nice pasta, some simple stir-fry, or some nice home-made salsa. The one exception has to be Ramen though. it's so simple and cheap.

My favorite "snack" right now, is to fry up some chicken with olive oil + basil + tomato + rosemary + garlic + parmesan cheese; then toss up some noodles with the same mixture in the pan... add that tasty mixture to a bowl and I've got pasta snacks for at least three days!

Now I'm hungry. :(

» Coffee of choice  ...  Last Reply: 2 years ago by avuee.

Talking about the Dunk' Donuts coffee; I hate to say it but McDonald's has some damned good coffee too. It's brewed at just the right strength for me and it's typically accompanied by a sausage biscuit. Yum!

I'm always in love with anything that has Hazelnut, which incidentally tastes absolutely nothing like any hazelnuts I've ever eaten. Any reasons that anyone knows?

» What time do you get up?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by clicknathan.

I'm usually in bed by ten and up by seven on the weekdays. I'm still dead tired all the time, so I try getting to bed around eight or nine - but I can never manage it. Life just keeps getting in the way. My weekends; I'm usually up until one or two in the morning and still wake up around seven.
