I saw this online this morning and while I think it is a pretty ingenious invention I had to wonder... WHY is this a problem that needs solving?

Remember Ring

It's a ring, that is pre-programmed with a significant date, and 24 hours before the prescribed date proceeds to HEAT UP to 120 degrees for 10 seconds on the hour every hour for a full 24 hours.

Do you have issues with dates, like your wedding anniversary and why? I don't see what's so hard about it that you need to make yourself uncomfortable every hour as a reminder.

Weirdness!

Well, I don't, but maybe I need to buy this for my husband and other family members...since they seem to have issues of this nature.

I have a very good memory for dates, phone numbers, addresses, conversations, locations, etc. My husband is quite hopeless though. Drives me completely nutso, but forgetting my birthday was really over the top, even for him.

Oddly enough, I find numbers REALLY easy to remember, but I SUCK at math. ;)

I remember the license plate number of a silver Suburban that had its lights on in our church parking lot when I was 6. (that was 22 years ago)

A few other thoughts:

It's interesting that the sizes that are offered are pretty obviously for men, since they start at 9.5 and go up. I'm sure there must be women in the world who would need this thing, right? Okay, I've never met one, but surely they must exist... :)

If it's only going to start warming up 24 hours ahead of the big date, how useful is that? 24 hours isn't much time to really do what you might want to do for a special day, had you remembered about it a couple of weeks in advance...

Is it only good for the one date during the one year? What do you do the next year, have it reprogrammed?

Sounds like a reject to me.

I don't think being good at math necessarily has anything to do with number memory anyway. I'm pretty good at math (okay, up to about the geometry or algebra 2 level), and I think it's more a visualization and logic thing for me.

Man, I never knew a Suburban would leave such a lasting impression! ;)

I didn't either but my dad knew I was good with patterns and things and said "remember that plate number" so I took him literally. ;)

As for the date thing, if you wanted a good buffer zone on your "special" date you could always tell them the date but make it 6 days earlier so you're reminded a week in advance.

I don't have problems remembering dates. I'm really good with numbers, so I just use the numerical date and I have no problem remembering them. However, why they are important is what I have a problem with. Not to mention I can't remember a bunch of other stuff now-a-days.

My wife does that ALL the time... "it's the 18th I KNOW there's something IMPORTANT today... what was it."

Birthdays and anniversaries she doesn't seem to forget though.

I'm alright with birthdays and anniversaries. I don't have that many to remember. Well, for the most part I'm good with birthday. I get the general date, I'm usually off by one or two days.

I can't imagine needing such a device. I still use a book for dates though I remember the few that are really significant. As most people own a computer and turn it on daily I would imagine putting dates which need to be remembered somewhere on a calender would suffice.

I, also, would not need that device. I always remember things like birthdays or anniversaries but I do it 'the old fashioned way'. I write it down with a pen on the calendar. I try and remember to mail a card or gift so it will arrive on the special day. Backing up the time-tracker, it might take me a few months to find just the right gift!
