Following on the heels of Mike's note about a creative CD cover layout...

I don't have a dog myself (my apartment unfortunately has a no-pets policy and though I love animals, I don't feel I'm ready for the responsibility--yet), but my best friend rescued a rottweiler a couple years back. They named her Lola.

Anyway, due to their decreased time spent at the home office, my friend and her husband thought it was time to get Lola a companion since she seemed a bit lonely. And so they rescued another black and tan dog from the shelter to match Lola for cuteness' sake. A glaringly interesting feature about the new dog was that he ... has a big wang.

The runners-up (discarded dog names): Dirk Doggler, Smalls

The winner: Sancho, the meaning of which they intended: "man who steals your woman while you're in prison"

Meet Lola and Sancho. I mean, look at it!

Any other stories of funny or clever dog names? Pics, please. :) (Sorry--I meant to put this in Humor!)

Ours were named by the breeder as she uses the letter of the alphabet to determine the year of the litter from the mother. With the pup though we had the choice of Dillon or Dexter, he looked a Dillon more. Barley was rehomed to us from the breeder at 2 so already named also.

We did have an idea to call Dillon Defor as in (yes you can groan) 'D for dog'.

Meh puppies

That was a while ago, he is now larger than her and a lot more teenager.

Too cute!

My dog's name is Dora, as in Dora the Explorer :)

My dog's name is Maggie...(no pic on me)

I tend to try to stick to normal names for my animals as I don't want to feel like a moron if they get lost and I have to walk around screaming a retarded name.

My cat's name is "Ick"

My daughter named the cat when she was 4 so THAT explains it pretty much.

When I was growing up we had a series of adopted dogs.
People would dump dogs on our road every 6 months so we'd have a new dog for a time, then they'd scamper off (we suspected the neighbors lured them away since they have a HUGE herd of dogs and would feed ours with theirs).

Anyway names..

Bingo and Fluffy.
Bingo looks identical to the dog in the movie Bingo, and ran away a few months before its release.. hmm...
And fluffy was Bingo's identical sister, just, well, very fluffy!

Tilla was later on. Another beautiful brown/black/gold mutt named after Tellah from Final Fantasy III.

And our cat's name was Kelly. No real story behind that one that I can recall.

Apparently Bob Barker gets told all the time that people named their dog after him.

All my dogs came from the Humane Society and had quirks my family came to love. My first 'child' was Nikki. We once had a strange name for one of our dogs: " Pepper Von Shlepper With the Bug Eyes". Obviously he was trained for the name "Pepper".

i don't have a dog yet.
But when i'll get one, i'll name it google.

Imagine a dialog with my dog:
- Google, come!
- Google, sit!
- Google, search!!

webee [is a design blog]

I once knew a pet owner whom named her dog, "Nintendo". I thought it was quite creative since the breed she had were from Japan. I own a dog myself but lacked the creativity so I named him "Max". I think my next dog, I'd like to name it, "Ninja".

Our Rottie is named BuuBoo, which is always good for a laugh at the vet's. Our Buu is 115 lbs with a silly little dog's name.

We had two cats named "Mac" and "Tosh". Yeah, we were young, in love, and dorks.

Worked with a vet while in high school and we had German Shepherd named Touch. He was the meanest dog I have ever seen. We also had a hybrid wolf named Tonka. She was all gray with gold eyes.

My dog in college was named Doosh Baggins

My dog's name is Gandalf, because I'm a Lord of the Rings freak. (I loved the series way before the movies came out; post-movies freaks need not apply to my elitist club!)

I often quip that, "Alas, my Gandalf is not very wizardly; indeed, he's rather dumb, but he's lovable!"

My wife and I were joking yesterday about getting a chihuahua and a great dane and naming them David and Goliath... except the chihuahua would be Goliath and the great dane, David. *rimshot* :P

Bingo - He looked JUST like this dog.

Fluffy - Because she was a fluffy version of Bingo.

Tillah - My brother and I were big into Final Fantasy and this came from Tellah.

My dog's name is Jughead!

St. Thomas A' Becket.

(Becket for short)

I love these names.

Would you believe I've actually met 3 dogs in my lifetime named Dee-oh-gee? (Like D-O-G?) It's peculiar when people think they're being creative in naming their dogs a certain name but then people end up being creative in exactly the same way. :)

@estarla: I've never heard Dee-oh-gee. That's actually pretty cute.

I forgot to mention your picture in my first response; that thing is scary.

Lego

Here's my Mini American Eski. We named her Lego! :D

I have 2 labs.. one is Star and the other is Toby.
But, the nicknames are more approriate - "underfoot"" and "tripper".

I did have a cat named Five once (My networking Cat) and lizards - Grep, Dev Null, and Ping.

My dog is called Bubble. The name stuck before I got around to naming her Macbook.

*kidding* ;P

My dog's name is Rocket :) He's a basenji-mix with a tendency to jump straight up in the air from standing... so the name came from that.
Rocket the basenji mix
Runners-up were Bailey, Spud, and Bandit. None quite suited as much as Rocket.

My dog is Duncan. Everyone I've told that to gives me "I've never heard of a dog named Duncan." Then they see him and they say "You're right, he is Duncan."

It's a double meaning name too. It means "brown warrior," which fits, but it's also after Duncan Idaho. Points to the first one that gets that reference. Don't cheat with google or wikipedia.

These names are great. I love Nintendo and Google :)

Will Pate (from Flock) calls his dog Beta. I like that.

When I was a kid, I had a dog I called Laika. After the first dog in space.

We have a bad habit in our family of giving our animals odd names.

There are Bilbo Baggins, Tate and Lyle, aka the Ginger Nuts. I used to have two cats called Ziggy Stardust and Twigglet. Then there are the rabbits Gilbert and Grace. Assorted fish have been named everything and everything including Marty, Arthur, Daisy, Cassandra, Humphrey and Shanks & Tilley (Archaeologist in joke). And my lovely dog was called Jason. In our defence that was the name the RSPCA gave him - but we got him when I was young and in a Jason Donovan phase so I spent the rest of my teen years explaining that that WASN'T who he was named for!
