My only beef with Wal-Mart is their acceptance and widespread use of eminent domain to obtain land.
Other than that, I don't sweat walking through the doors.
I always hear crap from people about their cheap shoddy merchandise and I always think back to an experience of mine from grade school.
I needed some pants for work. I went to Wal-Mart and picked up a cheap pair of no-name Jeans for $12. I received a pair of Jeans from my parents for my Birthday around the same time (from the Gap).
Over the course of a 12 month period I had to buy another pair of pants to replace the pair my parents gave me as they fell apart within 6 months of LIGHT WEAR. The pants from Wal-Mart were put through heavy wear for 5 straight years and I eventually had to retire them because they no longer fit, not because they were worn out.
To me, if I can wear a pair of $12 jeans for 5 years of HEAVY use... why would I spend $45 on a pair that will last 6 months?

@RightOn: The stock answer would be that Wal-mart costs people and the community far more than simply the price you pay for those pants.
Ok, all done! I'm not trying to get involved in the discussion.

No one is making me shop at Wal-Mart, admitted, but this letter wasn't to Wal-Mart.

Exactly Erin~!
Too many people don't give the slightest bit of thought as to how shopping behaviour can affect their community.
