How many domain names do you (personally) own? Have you bought any from brokers? Have you sold any?

I own four right now. I bought them all through my host. I sold one a looong time ago for $500.

I personally own around 200 domain names and good portion of them are actually in use around the web.

I've never purchased a domain through a broker but I've sold domains via brokers.

I've also sold complete sites through brokers as well as done site sales on my own.

Do you have a domain you're looking to unload?

@seanrox - I'm more interested in buying them. Most of mine are all twisted into my business, but between my partners and I, we have somewhere between 160-200 now. To me that's a lot considering we don't monetize them through link aggregation (I don't have any issue with it, I'm just not interested.)

We're using domains more and more for seo (not necessarily sem,) so I'm getting more interested in services like snapnames.

holy crap... that's a lot of domains...

We manage around 600, so it's easy to get caught up in buying (leasing) them for ourselves while we're grabbing them for clients. The reality, though, is that we probably only use about a third of our "personal" domains.

I should have left my own numbers out. I'm more interested in the general perception of (domain) value. I'd expect most people own 1 or 2 vs 10 or 20 (or 200 like seanrox.)

I have about 20, which is low. I dropped many as I'm changing things around. The number will increase throughout the year. I have never sold a domain (although I might in the near future). I have never purchased one from a broker. There was never a domain I wanted or needed "that" bad. I also wanted a domain with a clean slate so I'd take a domain with a play on words than one that is already registered.

Anyway, the number I have is usually around 50-200 depending on what I'm doing at the time.

Ok, I feel amateur with only like 5 domains.

I own 15, I have never wanted one enough to pay broker prices though and have never sold a domain.

I have 5

10-20, depending on what's going on at any given time. Only purchase through my registrar, and never sold any.

I have about 20 at the moment, but I'm going to let some go this year. I've never bought or sold through a broker.

About 60 or so. I've sold a few but never through a broker. I prefer to handle the sale terms myself and use an escrow service for the transfer of money.

I now have four, down from seven.

I think we're somewhere in the ballpark of 100 domains these days, with most of them in active use.

wow, these numbers are making my head spin. I have 6 and I was thinking I needed someone to take my credit card away from me!

@james - is "we" you / forty, or are you including client domains?

do you sell your domains using sedo.com?

I have two. One for my secret project (*shifty eyes*) and of course Aelon.net - which I didn't actually own directly until a couple of months ago. When i first got the domain it was through a hosting deal so the owner was technically my web host.

I got it transferred over to me more recently, which was a good experience. Now I know how the system works and stuff.

4 , will be 5 soon.

@szczupak - I've used sedo once. Good experience. You?

I am using sedo at the moment... trying to sell 3 domains...

I think I personally own 20 or 30 domains all linked to live websites that I core administrate.

Three or four, I can't even remember.

3! Yay! I'm in last place!

Seriously though... what do you people do with more than 5 domain names?

8 - although probably not going to renew a couple of them.

Does anyone else find it irritating how many domain names are being squatted on. I would bet that only 5% of all domain names that are registered are being used for actual content. The rest are either dead-ends or indexing pages. I really wish there was a way to prevent it, it's so frustrating to try to come up with a good domain name these days.

I had 52 domains in April 2007 but now, only 43 left. I've never used 7 of the total domains since I registered them in February 2005 though.
