I was raised just outside of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA), and will always refer to that suburb as my "hometown." After high school, I moved to Washington DC for 1 year of college, then headed down to Central Virginia for my last 3 years of college. After graduation, I live in SW Virginia for a year and a half before moving to Costa Rica, where I'm firmly planted for hopefully many years to come.

I always have trouble answering the "Where are you from?" question. I get it a lot down here and I never know how to answer: Costa Rica is my home and my permanent residence, but I grew up in Philly. I usually circumvent the issue by saying, "I'm from Philly, but I live in Costa Rica," though this answer never really satisfies me.

So what about you? Where are you originally from, where do you live, and if I met you on the street and asked you "So, where are you from?", how would you answer?

I would answer "Milwaukee, Wisconsin." :)

I now live in Los Angeles. But since I've been here 10 years and LA is full of transplants, people will usually say to that, "Oh, you're basically a native now." And I never disagree...

Milwaukee, I still consider my home, though.

Vermont( born there), Australia ( Tasmania and Sydney), Maryland, Rhode Island ( technically my parents moved their after I left for college so I only spent one summer there, Venezuela ( for a brief period), went to school in NYC.

I'm back in Maryland now.

I usually say "New England" when asked where I'm from, and if they seem like they'd like more, or ask for more I'll whittle it down. I grew up in rural Central New York, moved to CT for seven years, went to college in Southern Vermont, and lived for awhile in Portland, Maine. I feel like a New Englander. I'm now living in Alabama, and though my soul will always reside up North, I'm enjoying it in the deep South.

I am from Babylon, Long Island, New York. I lived there for the first 26 years of my life. I lived in CA, after that, and now I live in TN.

My mother's womb and here. In that order.

I was born in Toronto, Ontario, raised in Edmonton, Alberta and moved back to Toronto for university. I lived there for 13 years and then I moved to Vancouver, British Columbia just this year. Since folks in Vancouver don't seem to be big fans of Toronto, I tell everyone here I moved from Toronto but then say really quickly "But I'm originally from Edmonton!"

Live in Almerimar, Spain. Got here via:

Hull, Yorkshire (England)
Stoke, Staffordshire (England)
Minneapolis (Minnesota)
Houghton Conquest, Bedfordshire (England)
Walton on the Hill, Surrey (England)

I used to tell people I was from Columbia, South Carolina (USA). I was born there.

Then we moved to Greensburg, Pennsylvania; then Indian Lake PA; then Ligonier PA; off to boarding school in Charlottesville, VA; parents moved to Virginia, I go to college in Pittsburgh, PA; joined the Air Force went off on a whirlwind tour to San Antonio, Texas; Biloxi, Mississippi; Minot, North Dakota; Gunsan, South Korea; Balad, Iraq and finally Las Vegas, Nevada (the Air Force was a quick six years). There were a ton of little 2 or 3 month stints at other random places around the globe, all the ones I mentioned were for at least 6 months.

Some where in there I just started calling wherever I was sleeping that night home. It just makes it easier.

Wow... it's way too late to try to make a list that in-depth... I'm sleepy.

I was born when my dad was in college in Troy, New York (near Albany) but for most of my life, I grew up and live 12 miles from a small town in upstate NY. Even going away to college was only in Syracuse so I just say "upstate NY" (USA).

I've lived in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and New Mexico. I now live in Melbourne, Australia.

If you met me on the street, I'd tell you I'm from Mississippi, because that's where my familial roots are and where I was born, even though I did not live the longest there. But in terms of where I'm from, what I call home...mm, well, home is wherever I feel freest and loved by those around me. That's definitely in Melbourne right now, though I must admit the majority of my friends are from Norway and just happen to be studying here, too. No telling where life will lead me. :D

I was born and bred in Glastonbury (UK, not Connecticut, though G'bury in Connecticut is also very nice) and live there for 18 years with the very odd upbringing of public-school-Hogwarts during the week and bohemian/country at the weekend.

I then spent three years in Liverpool. All the time I was there, Glastonbury and Somerset were very much "home".

Now I've been in Southampton since 2004 and I'm a bit more split. Southampton is my 'home' in that this is where I have my life, my friends and my house. But Glastonbury will always be where I grew up and, when people ask, it's where I'm "from".

Raised in a tiny town about 10 miles South West of London in the Surrey countryside. When I was 18, I went to university in Southampton, and have been here ever since (9 years now). If I met someone on the street and they asked, I'd probably say Southampton because that is where I currently live.

Born in Wheatland, WY. Spent my first 20 years there, then moved to Kerrville, TX, College Station, TX and now Austin, TX. I have been in TX for 10 years and consider myself a Texan and Wyomingite. The best of both worlds.

My dad was in the Air Force so we moved around a bit so I really didn't have a hometown per se. I was born in San Antonio, Texas. We moved up to Rock Creek, Ohio (in Ashtabula Co) with my grandparents while my dad waited for an apartment big enough when he was transferred to West Germany. We lived in Kaiserslautern, Germany, for 5 years. Then my dad was transferred to Hawaii so we lived on Wheeler Air Field near Wahiawa on Oahu for 3 years. When my dad retired, we moved back to Ohio but to the other end of the state in Huber Heights (north of Dayton). I've been living here since 1993 but I don't think I'd call it a hometown. My kids may someday call it that, but I haven't developed a connection to this city. I guess that's kind of sad.

I was born in D.C. I like to tell people I was born in the US but not in any state, that messes with their heads a bit. Lived there til I was 5. Then moved to Berryville, VA. A tiny 2-stoplight town in Northern VA (with the cows and the apple trees, not the nightmarish DC-suburb congestion).

I went to college in Richmond, and have lived there since. My mother and brother moved to VA Beach when I went to school and my dad still lives in Berryville, so I just say I'm from Virginia, all of it. lol

I grew up on farms. I played and hung out on farms. I'm very much a farmboy. LOL Granted, a techy geeky farmboy. But that's still where I came from. The thing about small towns is you can never wait to get out fast enough, then once you're out, you miss parts of it. Sometimes enough to go back, other times not.

I'm not sure which side of the fence I'm on yet...

I was born in a suburb of Chicago, and now I live in a different suburb of Chicago. Quite boring really. However I want to move somewhere down south.

I was born and raised in Louisville, KY. It's a good town.

Nowadays I'm "From" Texas, outside of Dallas/Fort Worth. I fit better in with the attitudes here than most anywhere else I think. Not all of them of course, but the whole independance/don't take crap from people, and generally treat strangers very well... that works for me.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas (really!), and moved to Germany with my Air Force husband when I was 27. Been here ever since. I had no idea that we'd be staying this long. I don't anticipate ever going back to Vegas permanently, but I don't know where I do want to live (if we ever get out of here, which is a major sore point at the moment!). I like the climate here, but that's about it.

born and rasied Texan, Dallasite

Born and raised in Reykjavik, Iceland. Still live there, which is fine because it saves me the trouble of having difficulty answering where I'm from (aside from the "Are there igloos in Iceland?!" questions), but bad because I'd certainly like to the experience of living somewhere else.

I was born in Yorkshire, England.

Then after 3 months, I moved to Malaysia where I stayed for the better part of my life.

Now I'm in Australia where I'm finishing off my studies and with any luck work here as well.

I probably hope that I can travel with my job. Then retire in some place where its warm, sunny and pleasant.
