Colorado officially went into fall/winter mode this weekend. I noticed the leaves turn last week and now it's 40 degrees and drizzly. I kinda enjoy this weather. I want to go home, grab my blanket and lie on the couch all day.
How's your weather?

Really not a question to ask anyone from the Uk.... especially since autumn just hit us. Soups, hot chocolate and warm jumpers is the only way to go for many months now as the entire country hibernates.

The weather is very Summer like here. In New England at this point I'm just not as prepared for another Summer day as I am ready for the snow. As if that made any sense, I doubt it.

I'm ready for snow too. Only a few weeks until the ski resorts are open...

Gosh, devin -- it's uncanny how similar my weather is to yours. Drizzly/rainy, not quite forty degrees. I'm loving it though. I'll make soup, curl up with a blanket and dream of the snow falling in the mountains.

It's another amazing day here in Brisbane, Australia. Not a cloud in the sky, sunny and only a little bit of breeze. I was at the beach on the Gold Coast two days ago. It's moving into summer and will only get better. Good times!

In NY - it's weird weather. One day it's cold, break out the light jackets, the next day it warms up. i would say autumn 'unofficially' started about a week and a half ago. Leaves are changing color eveyrwhere!

Go figured, Nicole. So odd.
My friend is in Brisbane for the year, I'm certainly jealous.
Tanya, that sounds oddly like typical CO weather. I'm expecting 80 degrees in the next day or two, hah. It was 35 this morning

Still feels like freakin' Summer in San Antonio, TX.
I was just commenting to my husband how San Antonio feels like Summer 11 months out of the whole year!
Too freakin' hot and humid.
Even when it rains, it feels like summer.

Upstate NY used to have four distinct seasons. Each was magnificent in its own right, but that was years ago when things were 'normal'. Now it's strange and the grass is brown, plants need much more water, air conditioning bills are high. Translated: today we are set to break more records for heat and humidity. It effects your energy level and appetite...

It had been a very hot spring out here in southwest Ohio. We've been having a drought along with it. It did rain a bit last Saturday and the weather man keeps promising more, but it's just not going to happen. Too freaking humid and I'm out of Claritin. Just about everyone's yards around here are going very brown. There's more green in my yard since I really haven't been mowing it as often as I usually did. Luckily our garden is surviving this weather.

What's odd about not having four seasons (we have summer and fall basically) is that my body can't adjust to it and I feel like something that happened a year ago happened just a few months ago. When I was growing up I'd equate September with the start of the year because that's when school started, but it also signified the end of summer (in Upstate NY) and it became colder. Now, it stays in the 70s/80s through October and November, and only starts to dip down in the 40s/50s for 2-3 months before getting warm again. The lack of seasons makes everything blend together.

One thing that is likely to change as a result of global warming in upstate NY is the type of crop farmers grow and the plants the rest of us grow. Can you tell I like gardening?? Just so you know, this area is full of cows, corn and apples... if the farmer-businessmen need to irrigate the fields, we will pay much more at the store for their produce.

Complaining about the weather in L.A. is like Paris Hilton complaining about serving a 23-day sentence in home confinement. No matter what, you're still spoiled.
So, I'll complain about the snow instead. I would say that this past winter was the crappiest snow season in the Eastern Sierras. That would be Mammoth and Lake Tahoe resorts. Absolutely 0 coverage. Colorado got it early and Whistler and Utah got it GOOD. Jealous of them, this year. But I can't really complain or speak too much about global warming, either, since just the year before Mammoth had a record year as did Whistler-before-this-year, when I was fortunate enough to be there for that. :)

auburn: Yes, in TN there is a severe drought, the worst in 50 years, and close to being the worst in almost 100 years. We had a drought last year, too. We had to control our water useage by not watering our lawns the past couple of weeks. Winter was a bit warmer, also.

LorriM: how does this dramatic change effect the plants people try and grow in their garden? Do you think the "zone" of areas will / should change to reflect plants that need less water and direct sun only?

This is an odd year for the Dallas area, but it's not unheard of. We're just edging out of a two year drought now with all these rains. They were due. It cycles here every few years. Lots of rain, then no rain to be seen for long periods of time.

Hah, poor Mike and his moderate climate.
Colorado has been upper 90s these last few weeks. I'm getting used to it now. Still haven't flipped on the AC yet (because it drops to 60 at night and cools the house).

auburn: It has seriously affected the plants in my own garden and yard, and the plants and shrubs in the homes in the surrounding neighborhoods. In my own yard, my dozens of rose bushes show roses with dried edges, due to the minimal watering. My other plants are not thriving as well. My vegetable garden, which started out looking wonderful, didn't produce as much as it should have, due to the watar situation.
It as affected the farmland around me, also. There has been less hay to mow and roll for animal feed. Fewer crops are available, due to the drought.
Yes, I do think that the "area zones" should change, in the garden books, to reflect plants, shrubs and trees that do better with less water and direct sun, especially if this drought continues next year.

It has been raining for 6 months now, and this week, it really picked up, but it is finally beginning to show signs of summer. I am so incredibly happy. In about 4 months, though, I'm sure I'll be begging for rain again.
San José (Costa Rica): 24°C (75°F)

In my area (southern Ohio), during the past few days, fall has arrived. It's chilly, overcast, and windy.
I am, however, still resisting the change; I'm in shorts and a T-shirt. I'm afraid it won't last much longer though. It's getting colder at an alarming rate.

Today is one of those absolutely perfect (but all too rare) fall days - Sunny, not a cloud in the sky, 13 degrees Celsius, and finally not windy! Of course, it'll probably be pouring rain again tomorrow (I'm not pessimistic, I've just lived here too long to expect anything else), but I'll enjoy this weather as long as it lasts.
