I say go with the door. It is so frustrating to be taking a shower and have that curtain billowing into the tub and touching your leg. And those magnets they put in the bottom of the curtains...such a joke.

Or am I the only one bothered by that?

Shower doors don't need much cleaning. Just use a squeegee on them after the shower. No water or soap drying on the glass = no build up! Maybe every other week a little glass cleaner for that extra shine.

Curtains - they're so much easier to clean. Just throw it in the washing machine, and no more scummy soap build up. Try doing that with a shower door.

I have had a shower door in the past, and chose to go with shower curtains in my current home. I disliked the doors immensely.

I use a shower curtain liner on the inside, and a decorative shower curtain on the outside.

This is a tricky one.

Shower doors are great cuz you can splash around as much as you want without making a mess, the downside is that it keeps all the heat in the shower so when you get out your usually freezing your buns off.

With shower curtains you have to keep splashing to a minimum obviously and they do cling to you. But with the invention of the curved shower rod your problems are solved. you have all the room you need.

Still.... I'd have to go with the door, Just looks better. And after seeing a certain movie I've always had a fear of slipping and somehow getting tangled in the shower curtain. :-/

I have an issue with the things that live on both. If I were redoing a bathroom, I'd go for one of those open showers that have glass blocks built up that don't use a door or curtain. Minimal contact, that's what it's all about.

Curtains in my opinion; even if they're harder to clean, they look better. Especially if you've got one of those old iron bathtubs with the clawed feet and the bare copper pipes. Sometimes my own bathroom scares me with that thing in there. I could never give it up though.

I must be the only one with both, although, if I had my choice, I'd have just a curtain. I hate cleaning the doors.

My dad put in the doors years and years ago, and as we grew up, my brother and I were on the same schedule to get up and out the door. My mom ended up putting a curtain in front of the doors, so that if he was running late, and I had to get in the shower, he could still come in a brush his teeth and stuff, withoug out seeing me in my birthday suit. Because that would be creepy.

I keep the curtain up now because the tubs a horrid mess (if people saw it, they'd think it belongs in a crack house). I've given attempting to clean because somehow the enamel on the tub came off, and that tub is never going to look clean again.

stefani, indeed they are all 3 bathrooms, just here in the US (not sure where you are from) we consider having a toilet, sink and shower a bathroom and when it only has a sink and toilet, we call it a half bath.

stefani: sounds like you have 2.5 baths, two with toilets, sink, showers and/or tub showers and one with just a sink and toilet... but still, you have the best of both worlds by having both the door and a curtain.

I had a shower door in my old place, it was a pain to keep clean now that I think about it. After showering, I'd have to squeegee the glass, then spray that shower cleaner stuff. Maybe it was because the water was hard in my area but if I didn't do that after every shower, the glass would get funky.

I have to put in my vote for shower curtain. Doors require /too much/ maintenance to keep clean. I always end up ruining the metal around them with whatever cleaning agent I'm using at the time... and man... having to wipe them down /every day/ to prevent that film from building up...

Sure, curtains get film and all that. The really cool thing though? Throw them away, go out and buy another $3 pair. I mean, you're using a "nice" curtain outside and a cheap curtain for inside your shower right?

Mike: OMG! You were starting to sound like Martha Stewart until you said "bathmats and shit". Good save and shit ;)

Martha Stewart is evil but I do understand your point. Thanks for your feedback.

I'm gonna go with the curtain, and I've used both curtains and doors all my life but am currently using curtains. I think you can get some nice shower curtains to match whatever decor your bathroom has for the rest (bathmats and shit) and if you go with the clear plastic on the inside and a nice fabric on the outside, it looks pretty nice and you can interchange whenever you want.

Curtains are cheaper, offer more variety of color/style, and ..... I think there are only 2 reasons :)

sean - no, I don't need the mirror to brush my teeth, I meant I use that to shave with, I just worded my sentence a little weird...

I use an electric razor, so no shower shaving for me.

right'o. :)

Speaking of the shower (not to change the subject of the note), how much stuff do you do in the shower opposed to out of the shower?

For instance, because of the fog-free mirror I have up in my shower, I shave and brush my teeth in the shower, as well as bath and shampoo. This leaves just the application of deodorant and body spray after the shower is done...and occasionally some lotion for the face (cold weather dries me out).

Go with a door with a pattern on it, doesn't have to be frosted per se, just something on it. I'll post a shot of my door later tonight so you can see what mine looks like.

I'd say frosted just because looking into a shower isn't all that appealing. It appears nicer to keep it kinda separate. Privacy too, I suppose?

Well so far there are more votes for shower doors then curtain. We'll see what the final count is come Friday when I actually make my final decision.

I'm leaning towards the door too.

Now another question, clear or frosted glass? I don't want to be cleaning glass daily... having to squeegee glass isn't fun.

Any thoughts on the glass type?
