Okay, here's the deal.
I just started this job about a month ago...and there's a guy here who's lobbying with some of the other employees (mostly the females in the office) to become a manager and he's asserting himself where it's not really needed (according to upper management) but yet nothing is being said to him and it's annoying to me because I feel like this guy is a complete douche' bag and an idiot to boot and doesn't belong in a position of any authority, yet he's assuming it.
Okay, rant over...now the question...
What can I do besides drink heavily to overcome my angst at this guy?!?

Well, I think drinking is your only answer.
Or, you could slap him in the back of the head. But I don't think that would help.

Curious: what are the other people who are up for the position doing?

Tyme: Doing their jobs (and doing them well) and helping when asked. It's abundantly clear to the other reps who are in the office (there's only 10 of us) that this one guy is trying to suck up and assert his authority where it's not needed...I just don't know if those who make the managerial decisions can see through his crap. And that is the source of my angst. One stupid idiot wannabe bossman guy is alright, but if he's got management fooled, it'll be tough to work there.

As mrvilhauer said, give him a good slap in the head :)
Drinking might help too but prior to the slapping. That way you can blame it on the booze if someone gets mad.
On the other hand, you could just avoid this guy and hopefully upper management will see he's being a knuckle head and promote someone else.
