Russell Davies has put together a good list of things that can help to make you interesting. First there are two assumptions you must keep in mind:

  • The way to be interesting is to be interested.
  • Interesting people are good at sharing.

Once you have that nailed down you can move on to the list.

  1. Take at least one picture everyday. Post it to Flickr.
  2. Start a blog. Write at least one sentence every week.
  3. Keep a scrapbook.
  4. Every week, read a magazine you've never read before.
  5. Once a month interview someone for 20 minutes, work out how to make them interesting. Podcast it.
  6. Collect something.
  7. Once a week sit in a coffee-shop or cafe for an hour and listen to other people's conversations. Take notes. Blog about it. (Carefully)
  8. Every month write 50 words about one piece of visual art, one piece of writing, one piece of music and one piece of film or TV. Do other art forms if you can. Blog about it.
  9. Make something.
  10. Read:
  11. Some interesting advice that I could see helps to make you a better observer of the world, which from my experience a lot of people are not good at being.

Excellent note Scrivs.

I've actually got a few of them down already with the exception of doing a podcast and reading the 3 listed on #10.

As for pictures, I'm an early adopter of Flickr but I'm still in search of a good photo gallery solution that works nicely with WordPress.

Great ideas...I'm doing a good many of these things now, except I don't have an active Flickr account. I'm not a big picture taker...I guess I could change that.

I feel like I'm very interesting, and most of my r/l friends don't even know how interesting I am. I guess my idea of interesting is different than theirs.

Hmm...

1. Maybe one day
2. Done
3. Should improve on this.
4. Magazine = website. Done.
5. I talk to new people everyday.
6. Done
7. Not. Going. To. Happen.
8. I write about what interests me. Period.
9. I try to make sites all the time. Does that count?
10. Not. Going. To. Happen.

Everyone is interesting to someone. I think people try too hard or have an idea in their mind of what they want to be and try to morph into it, instead of being themselves. Especially online= copycat city.

wow, I must be totally uninteresting...I do none of those things.....but i'm cute and hyper does that help???

Well stefani, you technically do at least one of them... #9 make something. You've been commenting on notes, so that takes a little interest and creativity.

We all should try # 6 Collect something... like collecting our thoughts before we comment.

Being cute and hyper does help a little but without a picture or link, Scrivs might poke at you. Quick! post a picture!

These are all good and I like the article. I've found the old adage (to be interesting is be interested) is extremely true. Just listening to people and getting emotionally invested and interested in them makes that relationship so valuable.

I think another good point here is a variety of experiences is best. Different magazines, different people, etc. I need to work on that a bit more...

Just getting out, being social is always a good way to stay in the loop, so to speak....and yes I also agree being interested is interesting....

how do I post a pic on here??? =]

stefani: to post an image, use the following:

You can leave out the part about a direct link to your image but just add the img src stuff to your image if it's online. Hope that makes sense?!

Well....if I do that, then everyone can see ALL my photos in my gallery and yea, dont want that....=] help!

Aww, I'm boring... wait, does it matter what you collect?

Stefani: Just do the img portion then and ignore the link.

OK well....here's the link, can you fix it for me?

Those tips are really interesting. I'm trying to figure out how to record conversations on Skype so I can interview different people for a podcast I do on one of my sites.

I do need to read different types of magazines though, as well as chill in a coffee shop.

JPhill - what type of computer do you have? PC or Mac?
