That's one of the reasons why I'm looking forward to moving away from the bad weather. There are times when I want to go out but the thought of slipping/slidding on ice avoiding people who can't drive tires me. It's no fun going out and before I can go home, I have to clean off the car.
Well in my neck of the internet this time of year we set our clocks back one hour, so it gets dark sooner, that mixed with the colder air and rain, yeah, it makes me want to crawl into my warm bed and sleep for days.
Yeah in Tampa we don't really get that feeling. Sure there are some cold days where getting up is hard, but there is never a "hey I need to sleep for the next 3 weeks straight" type of feeling. That would be depressing.
Yeah I don't dig this cold weather at all. That's the biggest downside of living in the Midwest, is that the winters are too damn cold. I guess it could be worse, we don't get hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes.
JPhill: I'm on the West Coast and it's in the low 40's right now which is really cold for what I'm use too.
I feel for people in the Midwest having to dig cars out of the snow for work or shovel the driveway to get out.
My family is from the Midwest and my grandmother told me stories of how they would open the front door to a wall of snow. Crazy. I'll take cold rain over a wall of snow any day.
You know when I lived in New England I always felt like hibernating during the winter. I'd go out, snow shoe, ski, but the pull to a comfy blanket was always strong.
Now that I'm in Alabama it's not so much. Must be the weather. Today it felt like it hovered around 65 all day. Truth is I always loved the snow. I miss it.
I feel for people in the Midwest having to dig cars out of the snow for work or shovel the driveway to get out.
Worse: you shovel the driveway to get out, the salt trucks come down the street and put the snow right back on the front of the driveway piled 3ft. high so you have to shovel a way out again, except this time it's packed down hard due to their power shovel.
The only thing I'll miss is ice-skating and skiing on occasion. And snowball fights - those are fun!
Over the years I've simply gotten tired of the shoddy winters we have over here. Global warming seems to really have reduced snowball fights for us. The worst thing about winter here is that snow rarely ever stays around and immediately turns into slush. Because I'm probably the only German that ever walks anywhere I always get wet feet ... and colds. Winter sucks majorly here. Still, I think changing seasons are a nice thing. When my parents lived in South America for a few years I got tired of the constant heat relatively fast.
I'm in the southwest, close enough to France to catch the heat from southern France while most of the northern parts of my country are flooded by torrential rains from England (wankers).
In the summer I regularly have somewhere between 30 - 38 degrees Celsius (and even more), in the winter it isn't that cold anymore. Sometimes just a little below zero degrees and lower on single days. Right now we're expecting another warmer phase up to 17 degrees next week which just indicates that global warming is on the rise. That's far too warm for this time of year.
If we were as strong as you say, we would have scared the weather away a long time ago. So far, we've only scared the rest of Europe away (aside from the people that attend the Octoberfest ... they're too drunk to be scared away by mumbling Germans)
Well the lesson to be learned here is that cold weather sucks. It's not fun and pretty much never useful. Give me Florida sunshine and the requisite bikinis that follow.

Yes! Snowball fights are priceless. But then I just want to snow to melt and get warm again.

Agreed deus62, I really enjoy the changing of seasons but I really dislike extreme cold.
Where in Germany are you located?

So you're seeing weather around the mid 30 deg f to high 40 deg f? If so, that's REALLY cold my friend... and you go walking in it? Too cold for me.
