Well, first off, what a great community 9rules is...strolled across it here and there over the past many months, and have been lurking for a few weeks now, and now am feeling comfortable jumping into some of the conversations...

So...lessee, I'm a married hippie, my wife rocks, and knows more about music than most people could imagine (it's her job), and in most cases, she's cooler than I am...but that's obvious...she works for a company called Homegrown Music.

Well, I started freelancing web design/development fulltime a year ago, got sick of these 3-6month contracts that were the only things available to a Sun God around the RTP NC area, after my last real job went belly-up and died in 2004. So, after having done a few websites for some bands I knew, I made the jump and well, I'm on a micro income now, but still haven't looked back. Plus, in the design area, I'm finding my skills really are finally improving, and am relying less and less on templates, and instead building on layouts for websites...I write my own php, pretty ok with photoshop, and I use vim as my weapon of choice when it comes to code.

We live in rural North Carolina, surrounded by thousands of acres of free range cow pastures...kind of right in the middle of Burlington & Chapel Hill, both being about 20mins away, and the closest store is 10mins (and it's a WAL-MART of all places).

I'm mostly into jamband music, with leanings towards bluegrass, rock, and jazz.

I don't blog, my primary pc is a windows xp thinkpad, I should excersize A LOT more than I do, and even being close tied to music, I prefer to work in silence.

Hello,

I'm Odile (42) and live in the North of Western Europe. I live in the Netherlands.
If I take a pair of binoculars, I can't see Iceland or Scandinavia, but maybe if I really try...

I blog since about 1 year at
Chez Odile: Thinker café to scaffold

and a few other blogs in Dutch and in French.
I wrote a book and I've sent it to another publisher. It's on a psychological subject. I studied Psychology and married one (now associate professor).
I tend to lift people around me by using scaffolds. I can't help myself.
I like to scaffold my children and husband, basically anyone who comes close. With games and puzzles. This is why people start studying all around me. I'm sorry for any inconvenience.

I saw many pleasant looking people here so, I thought, why not come to scaffold here too?

I like writing, thinking puzzles, fun maths, languages, education, improving education, talking about improving education with results, getting things done with my ideas. Also I like those films in artsy film houses. The films that are very complicated I like best. I love theater. To watch or read. In theater I did some programming, this means choosing what plays to invite, not messing with computers used for lights and sound. I would have liked to study dramaturgy. To compensate I write an occasional poem in Dutch. I always loose from my writer friends on writing competitions which is fun.

I'm working at improving my house, that's doing. Doing is not my favorite, I prefer thinking. I'm very often late.

Hello everyone! I go by autumndancer here as I've just joined 9rules. I'm a Computer Science student and earn my rent as an IT intern, writing code and going to meetings when I'm not in class. Currently I'm considering graduate school as I've fallen in love with teaching over the past year.

Computer science is something I've come to love, among many other topics/hobbies. Some of those include cooking, gardening, dancing, mathematics, history, and writing. I haven't done much blogging, I do mostly poetry and short stories when they strike me.

Some of my favorite things:
* font: courier
* color: dark green, though I adore most colors to some degree
* programming language I've used: C, though I need to work more with it
* beverage: coffee
* food: pasta covers a lot of what I really like
* landscape: prairies, I love their openness
* music: I'm rather random about that, I like many songs/artists from various genres

My name is Fabio and I work as a Technical Writer for a fairly big IT company. You know those PDF and CHM manuals nobody reads about until they run into big problems? Yep, those.

Despite the common stereotypes I really love my job, and I'm happy not to work full time as a programmer! I get a chance to code a bit and test stuff from time to time, thought, which is always good fun.

In my free time I *try* to write something interesting and useful on H3RALD.com, although I really need to post more frequently.

Interests? Well, spending time with my fiancée, reading and writing about technology, movies, programming and web development. Favourite programming language? Ruby, probably, at least lately.

I'm fairly new to 9rules (I joined two days ago), but I do hope to stick around and join in discussions as much as I can.

I've been writing bloglily for almost two years. It's where I talk about the things that make me happy -- good writing, the weird things people think and do, stationery supplies, food, and how to claim lost property from the state where you left it behind in a bank account or some other place (if you live in the United States).

I'm older than Lorri, have been a lawyer for almost twenty years, have just finished my first novel, and live in house with three children (they're boys and they're loud), a dog (he's a boy and he's loud), and a husband (he's obviously a boy, but he's not loud).

I like coming over to 9rules and seeing what people are dreaming up, eating for lunch, thinking about, and arguing over. I don't like it when people argue badly -- either because they can't make a persuasive argument or because they don't know how to apply good manners to the art of disagreeing. Other than that, I can tolerate pretty much anything.

And I had no idea estarla could belch that well.

My name is Anne and my hobbies are crawling, scraping and tagging. I study New Media at the University of Amsterdam where I am also part of the Digital Methods Initiative. We strive to develop new research methods and tools that take into account the natively digital of the web (hence the crawling and scraping).

Lately I've been busy with my MA thesis on Blog Software and the Act of Blogging which will focus on WordPress. I have recently started blogging for the Blog Herald, which is both an honor and a great job.

In my spare time I am a freelance photographer for various Dutch media and research institutes. I love music and traveling and my day never has enough hours to read everything I want.

To keep up with everything I am quite busy conference-hopping, participating in seminars and giving workshops that deal with New Media and the politics of the Internet.

On a regular Friday evening you can find me & my geeky friends at our favorite pub in Amsterdam at the window near the canal so we have wifi ;)

After pimping myself out at some other community sites, I finally decided to check out 9rules. Man, this place rules (no pun intended). An intuitive user-interface - what a concept!

I've got two beautiful kids, an ultra-awesome wife and a house to call my own (although I wish I lived in an igloo like hthth).
I like sushi.
My favorite color is blue.
My favorite number is pi.
I run a photoblog called My GPS Camera Phone, where all content is taken with a 2 mega-pixel camera phone.
I have three dogs and one cat.
I love riding my motorcycle.
Mac vs. PC is a dumb argument.
My favorite letters are g and f.
My current font lusts are Helvetica and Trajan Pro.
I despise/loathe Comic Sans.
I love dumb humor and cheesy wordplay.
I have a degree in journalism, but decided not to be a journalist.
Someday I will work from home and be my own boss, or at least work at a small ad agency.

Hey all! Well my real name is Steve, you know me here obviously as Cappuccino, but over the last almost 38 years I have been called many things : Bubba, The Thin Man (after de-bubba-ization), Gee-Bo, and any number of online handles, my favorite and currently retired being : The Long Haired Leaping Gnome.

Which is funny to me at least because I am not a fan of long hair.. but I digress. I have a degree in English which amuses me to no end given my error ridden writing and the fact that work in IT.

I am married to a wonderful woman who puts up with my crap and have a 6 year old son named Maverick. We are currently in the process of adopting a girl from China, which frightens me to no end thinking about her in high school dating.

I am coffee obsessed, I love it. The taste, the rush, the culture. So I decided to start blogging about it. Thus began the life of Brotherhood of the Bean.

I also have what would be considered more of a thoughts on the world and life blog called Eleven 22. And just started a Linux blog called Linux Ninjas.

I secretly wish I had design skills to create amazing layouts for these sights but realize that I don't so I find myself constantly trolling for a layout that makes me feel complete.

I'm 2 months short of 25, but I've been told I look like I'm about 19. I'm still in school, but will be graduating this December with my degree in Management Information Systems. Right now I'm on the job hunt and it sucks. I'm not used to having to interview for jobs.

I tried modeling for awhile, but I decided that I like to eat too much. I'm back behind the computer now. It's where I belong.

Personality-wise, I'm very laid back. I get along with pretty much everyone and I hardly ever get angry. Really. Unless I'm driving - I have a pretty severe case of road rage due to all the idiots on the road. How I got my license taken away and some of these other people didn't amazes me.

Howdy,

My name is Stephen [IPA: stɛfɛn] Caldwell. I don't have a fancy nickname. I have a personal blog that I update from time to time. It talks about the various things that I encounter in my life. I'm at the ripe old age of 23. I currently do software development to sustain myself. I recently signed up for 9rules (as in a couple of hours ago), but I've know about the site for years. One of the blogs that I used to read regularly became apart of the 9rules network. I couldn't tell you what that blog was though.

My interests are varied. I like software and technology, but not nearly as much as I did pre-college. I enjoy music, but can't perform it though I do own two guitars. I can muster through a three ball cascade all right. There are an innumerable number of things that I wish I did do. I am interested in the law, but have no interest in law school. I need to find some way of becoming an arm-chair lawyer. I'm interested in business and am planning on getting an MBA at some point in the medium term future.

I have anger issues, as in I internalize almost all of it. I'm soft spoken and shy and don't speak my mind -- except when there is a computer acting as an intermediary or I'm inebriated.

There are more things I'd like to comment on, but I think I've spoken at length... long enough.

My (given) name is Pelf Nyok. Everybody calls me Pelf. I maintain a personal blog at pelf-ism is contagious, and I write about charity, conservation and volunteerism at The Giving Hands. I am in the middle of reviving my turtle blog, hence the URL will only be revealed later, LOL.

I am currently writing up my thesis for my Master of Science in Conservation Biology. Simply put, I raised a species of critically-endangered freshwater turtles, called the river terrapins, as soon as they have hatched. And I run feeding trials on them to determine the best methods for rearing them in captivity.

And once a year, I assist my Supervisor organize a release event called Terrapin Independence Day (2006, 2007) where we release some of the terrapins that I've raised, in an attempt to see how well they fare in the river. Besides releasing terrapins, we also put up exhibitions to educate the local villagers on the importance of conserving one of the Top 25 most endangered freshwater turtles.

My name is Cas and I write over at Bright Meadow.

I am based in the sunny south of the UK who, when not spending far too much time finding things to blog about, is trying to work out how post-grad research into archaeological computing can be parleyed into a career in publishing. Perhaps not surprisingly, this isn’t going so well, so during the day I work for local government, which isn’t actually as soul destroying as you might think.

I try and make the site the focus for a rambling chat among friends, both new and old, about sites, blogs, and other tid-bits gleaned from daily trawls of the Internet. It’s also part of an ongoing project to persuade fellow academics that the Web really isn’t such a scary place.

Throughout it all, I hope to aim for tone that is up-beat, self deprecating, gleefully irreverent, and blonde in a left-handed kind of way, with a healthy dollup of British sarcasm. If on occasion I make even one person stop, think, and look at something differently, then I am happy. If I’ve made people laugh, well, that’s even better.

That's all I have to say, other than I am most definitely not Bridget Jones.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say my name is eric. Self taught, former lead designer for AOL Video out in VA, now designer for Adobe living in San Fran.

I'm usually on my computer, mixing music, yelling at people or figuring out how to string together four letter words to write posts for my blog badtofu. I'm currently working on a few designs for small tshirt/hoodie line as well as a side project for vinyl toy collectors. I'm a big fan of graffiti and sticker art and checking out the hidden gems of the city. I'm also a pretty damn good cook :D

woah.. everyone is, like, older than me. =D I am new here, so i don't really know whats going on.. =)

Jia here. like scrivs, i prefer people call me that. I live in malaysia (not many people know where it is.) and i'm a chinese (duh!). I'm trying to learn French and Spanish right now. I like having fun and having a good time with friends be it online or real life.. Sometimes i go crrazzy and i'm a fun person unless u get on my nerves, which is quite hard to do.. because i've learned to live and forget...

erm.. or is it because i don't care? still can't figure it out. =)

In school, i have friend coming up to me talking about their fights with friends, boy issues etc etc... hence, i'm pretty neutral in most things... i'm pretty passionate about some stuff and start me talking about it and u won't even stand a chance. =D

Getting to know me is either the best choice u have ever made in your life or the worse. though its usually the former. I'm looking forward to getting to know more great people, like scrivs (since he's single, sexy and got it going on!!) haahaha!!

Hi I'm Tanya,

I just recently joined this community, although I've known about it for a long time.

I'm 20 years old and I live in Italy where I for the moment learn Italian and work at an internet café. Yes, I'm online pretty much the whole day ;) and I'm originally from Scandinavia.
In January I will start studying Graphic Design for 3 years at an institute. My passion is web design but also print. I hope I can make a living on that in the future; working in this internet café is not quite the job of my dreams if you know what I mean.
I wish to take my master in yet another country after I'm done here, i.e. Mexico, England or the States.

Along with design I love to travel, cultures, languages, photography, cooking and drink a beer or two with mates.
I'm a rather calm person, but as Tyme I can be pretty intimidating if you're a man interested in me. I guess it's due to all the illegal immigrants here in Italy that bug women, so you have to stay strong. Unfortunately this affects also the good men out there.

If I'm not intimidating I'm realxed, funny; even goofy, when with mates I can be rather silly, but I'm always passionate with that I do.

My name is Mike and I have the pleasure of running this site alongside Scrivs and Tyme who introduced themselves above. I'm a 24-year old guy living in Raleigh, NC with my wife (of 2 months!) Eleni who is a software engineer at IBM, but she's far less geeky than I am which happens to work out pretty well. I've been working at home now for a few years which works out well because I've preferred to work late at night since my days at RIT.

I spend most of my time online — at 9rules, reading blogs, reading newspaper sites, online magazine articles, anything you can think of, so I have a lot of random information kicking around in my head. I design all things 9rules and have been designing for the web since 1996, "professionally" since 2000.

I don't watch much TV contrary to most of America, the only shows I watch (time-shifted of course) are Family Guy, How It Works, and Survivorman occasionally, but I never lazily have the TV on and surf since I've gotten my DVR. I've been playing golf since high school and now that I live in North Carolina instead of New York, it's nice to see the golf season extend another few months.

I'm a New Zealander that has set up camp in Australia, who tends to speak his mind (as Tyme can attest). ;)

I tend to blog about technology and geeky stuff as am a Systems Administrator by day. I'm (secretly) a Mac user trapped in a Windows user's body and am occasionally confused as a result.

Lately I have become entirely obsessed with Valve's Team Fortress 2. Team based virtual combat at it's absolute comic best.

I could describe myself, or what I do a good deal more, but death-from-verbosity is sure to follow in return.

Hi I'm Jenna and I can't figure out how to post a picture!
I work at an adult shop in the lingerie section, I supervise the customer service of a couple hundred people in a call center, and I'm going to school to be a teacher some day. I got a late start. I'm 26 and I just went back to school. The most important thing in my life is my family. Especially my sisters and my little nieces.
I love to read ANYTHING! Best series I've ever read is Kushiel's Legacy by Jacqueline Carey. GREAT books, if you can handle them. Not everyone can. Do you dare!!??
I don't have a blog. It seems like everyone on here does. I guess I should since I like to say what I think. I have a My Space, but that is the closest.

I'm Josh, an American living in America. (Sorry, Erin, couldn't resist. ;) I'm a full time university student, majoring in history. I'm interested in all history, but I'm really into the Second World War. Eventually I'd like to teach history, preferably at a college / university level, but I think that's getting a bit too far ahead into the future; I'll focus on finishing my bachelor's for now.

Along with history, I also love languages, and am learning, erm, "a few": I'm advanced with German, a beginner in French (going wonderfully), and a beginner in Russian (not going so wonderfully). Technically, I started learning Russian about a year ago, but there has been a large amount of "off" times during that period, and so I've not made as much progress with it as I would have liked. Even when I do put in time with it, I find it a great deal more difficult than German or French.

I blog about my life and whatever strikes my interest at System 13. It's hard to say what my blog is about; indeed, I once posted that the only unifying theme about my blog is that it's written by me. I jump from language to history, from history to video games. I'd quote the Forrest Gump line about a box of chocolates, but I'll spare us all that.

Like Erin, I love to read. I've often tried to limit myself to one book at a time, but I've finally accepted fate: it's just not going to happen. I think I'm in the middle of something like 7 books right now.

I also game quite a bit (mostly PC "war" games), and spend far too much time at 9rules.com. Speaking of, I need to wrap this response up; I've got an art critique to write, and I currently have.. well, the title done! It's a start, no?

My name is Edrei Zahari and I'm a Malaysian. So far the only Malaysian that is a 9rules member.

I'm a bit mixed up when it comes to religious and cultural beliefs. My dad's a Muslim, my mother's a Catholic and my name's Jewish. I'm beginning to suspect that my parents thought it was funny to give me a Jewish name seeing that it now covers all the religions of the book. So far few people could ever pronounce it.

I blog at Footsteps in the Mirror and that's my personal and commentary blog. I concentrate more on writing my personal life and work on a way where they turn into stories. Aside from that, I also blog about blogging and anything else that crosses my mind. But being personal is what my blog really is about.

Like A_romig I have a penchant for penguins and collect penguin paraphernalia whenever I can. That means my house is choke full of them. I'm always collecting more. I like to find rare collections.

I'm currently on my final semester doing Applied Medical Biotechnology and Medical Science Pathology. With any luck, I might be doing my post grad soon, so here's hoping.

I'm Erin, an American transplant to Costa Rica. I'm not entirely sure why I always start an intro like that, since there are so many other aspects to my personality, but I think it's because my identity is partially wrapped up in my decision to expatriate at a young age.

Aside from being an expat, I'm a cultural & linguistic anthropologist by education and a writer by profession. I think these aspects all combine to make me who I am: expressive, adventurous, and tolerant of others' differences.

I blog about my experiences, thoughts, and views on life at Gringuitica, a nickname which I invented for myself. Without getting too complicated, we can just say that it's a juxtaposition of gringa (American) and tica (nickname for a female Costa Rican), which is culturally who I am. I have fun with the blog.

In addition to writing, observing, and blogging, I love to read (join the 9rules Book Club!), cook, go on walks, participate in movie and TV show marathons, and plan for the day when I finally own my own home. I guess I'm a bit domestic, but it's complemented by my love of travel and the occasional wild evening.

I'm also a little superstitious, and I absolutely hate that I'm the 13th poster for this note. That happens a lot here on my.9r, and it makes me nervous every time, though I know that it's stupid. Knock on wood for me anyway.

I'm an Icelander who lives in Reykjavik (in an igloo). My name is Hrafn, which means Raven in Icelandic/old norse.

I study computer science at Reykjavik University with a focus on artificial intelligence. Specifically artificial creativity and emergence (a member of RU's AI lab CADIA). I occasionally do some graphic designing on the side, CADIAs logo is an example of my work.

Studying takes up most my time, but my interests are quite eclectic; creating things would perhaps be the best way to describe them. I'm a total movie buff — some of my favs are Kubricks' work, Brazil, Mulholland Drive & Legally Blonde.

My name is Tyme White. I'm the girl of the 9rules Triad. I'm the one that handles 9rules member and my.9rules issues. I almost said relations but you people...with your dirty minds...would tease me endlessly.

I write on I Talk, U Listen and 3by9 with Mike and Scrivs. I have a Master's in Business Management so I tend to talk about things that can apply to business as well as life in general because I always seem to slide into talking about sex and relationships (hey, people ask me these things). I'm a CEO of my own business that I'm transitioning out of, single mother of two...just call me Wonder Woman. Or Black Widow.

If you follow my stuff, you'll know that for the first time in a year and a half, I'm free and unburdened. You know what that means right? Time for the fun begin...and put that year and a half of hell behind me. It's official: let the fun begin!

I'm shy but I try my best not to let that show. Although responsible *snort I can be like a big kid at times. Perhaps because I was busy being a responsible parent at a young age I missed out on a lot. Time to make up for it. Like having lobster, going to an iMax, perhaps some sushi too and travel...lots I want to see and I'm in a position where I can indulge in the finer things life has to offer.

People have a fascination with my voice and er, um, me in general. I don't see myself as fascinating but I'm glad people enjoy themselves. I'm easy going, until someone takes advantage of my nice nature. Then I turn into the devil and sprout horns, born with the 666s yo! I'm vocal, ambitious, independent and confident which can sometimes come off as cocky or if you're a man interested in me, intimidating. I'm working on it but I'm really sweet most of the time, honest!

What can I say? I'm a continuously evolving work of art. Always learning...

Hey there, I'm Clint and I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, just me and my dog. During the day I work as a market research analyst, but I'm doing a whole lot less research and a whole lot more programming these days (mostly scripting MS Office documents to create themselves). I feel like I'm living in a Talking Heads song. How did I get here?

When I'm thankfully away from work, I'm a gamer both the video and the D&D kind, watch anime, and write on my blog HappySoda. Oh yes, I am a nerd. Every now and then I'll pick up the guitar and play, but I just get happy when I can change chords without messing up. The drums is my instrument of choice, but they tend to frown upon that in my apartment complex. I'm also a big fan of checking out local bands when I get the chance.

Actually, my real birth name is too tough, so just call me Lifecruiser or LC for short and you'll avoid the tongue breaking part!

I live in the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. I spent over 20 years of my life on an IT career, but my back put an end to that in 2001. I'm happily married since 2003.

We did travel rather much (once a month sometimes!) for about 2 years. Travel & photography is my most current interests - besides blogging. I'm in the blogosphere to have fun, to relax, to write and read, widen my views and meet new friends.

I've had problem to travel this last year, so I started a cyber cruise at my blog, called Lifecruiser cyber cruise, first to survive myself, but then discovered all the fun bloggers out here and that it was possible to explore the world by blogs! My survival kit!

I'm an easy going person, but also very honest, a hungry monster and quite stubborn sometimes. I’m a night person, with a 40 hours staying awake record which I find very hard to break myself... *giggles*

The twinkle in my eyes and laugh is never far away, so do not take anything I write too seriously!!!

My name is Jane and I live in Tampa. I have worked at the same hotel in Tampa for 20 years. I work in room service, so yes I have waited on more than a few so called famous people. Working at the hotel has given me the flexibility to spend alot of time with my family. Most of our family time over the past 20 or so years has been spent at soccer games. Both of my sons play or have played at some time.I like Auburn have very little tech skills and even though I have a son who is tech savvy I am pretty much self taught.

My name is Nadine, though I've been Didi to family and friends most of my life, until I started using my given name when I began to make my quilting hobby into a business a few years back. It occurred to me only recently that my Grandmama was Nadine for business and Didi to family and friends in the same way, and I kind of smiled at that. Another thing we had in common: our stories usually take way too long to tell because they're filled with details and minutiae that nobody really cares about or needs to know! ;)

I write at Quilt Epiphany about quilting, quilts, fabric addiction, quilting, thread, quilters, and oh, by the way, did I mention quilting? Quilting became my addiction gradually starting in about 1990, but by 1994 I was a goner. It's a good thing I've been married to Eric for the last 18 years, since his job as a network ops manager keeps me supplied with fabric. Otherwise, I'd be a starving artist.

The last couple of years have seen me fully addicted to web design and development as well, which makes for some interesting moments when I can't decide what I'd like to do more: play with my fabric or play with my websites. Believe it or not, except for the tactile nature of the fabric, the two are fairly similar...

Eric and I have two beautiful girls, 10 and 15, who are currently driving us mad what with one firmly into the teenage years and the other on her way. Having teenage kids makes me feel old, though I'm "only" 40; he's the old one at 49! Two cats round out the family, one I love (Patches) and the other (Shadow) not so much because I'm convinced he's the devil incarnate. Oh yeah, we live in Stuttgart, Germany courtesy of my husband's job. Hmmm, maybe that's why I don't get on so well with the devil cat; he came from a German breeder, so maybe his English is not so good? ;)
